Ed Zipco has probably been my all time favorite photographer showcased by Vice. His work is not typical fashion cliche photos. He takes the most obscure and creative photos, I have seen in a good while.

Once again, the gnutella netork has single hadedly disrupted the music industry. MGMT's new album was probably the most awaited debut of early 2010. Now, since the get go, it was annouce the album would drop earlier in Europe than in the U.S, that showed to be a bad idea. The instant the album was dropped in Europe, it was all over the Gnutella network.

Now I am personally, a music supporter, no matter that it is, Hip-Hop, Indie, Metal or Garage, whatever it might be If im into your band enough, I will more than likely still buy your album.

So, to see how down to earth the guy in MGMT are, and can care less about fucking records sale...theyve made the album available for FREE!

Manchester Orchestra on Jimmy Kimel Live

Manchester Orchestra have been one of my all time "indie", not so indie now, bands. I dont know if its somthing in Georgia, but theres ben a recent uprise of Garage, Screamo and other verious Rock & Roll bands coming out of there. After touring continously for a whole year in 2009, Manchester took a slight break and have now began another tour in the U.S. Chicago also being one of the dates on that tour.

What I like most about Manchester is that, there song structurs are not repetative. There songs can change pase, from melodic country like cords, to heavy hitting guitar riffs. I will keep the reader posted on album news, hopefully they will be releasing one this year. Also future events.

Manchester played live on Jimmy Kimmel. Check out the performance, definetly a must see LIVE band.

Last night at about 9 p.m. I was watching the local chicago news, when they reported of a young man being pulled out of the chicago river after fleeing from cops. Sadly enough it was a person real close to the graff community. I can remember being 13 years old, and seeing Sole's scribes on the Blueline, and even on the expressways.

My heart goes out to the UAC and FTR crews for there loss. Unfortunatly, I never got to meet the brother, but I met him thru his work. I really admired his scribes and his pieces. Its like they say, immitation is a form of flattery.

There will be an Art Exhibit in the near future to aid with funeral spendings. I will post info in events as soon as I know of...

Its always great when someone recommends music to you. It tells you alot of what that person might be into. Sy, an old school graff writer, I communicate with thru the Chicago Graff Forums, said, "Hey, Check this song out! Vitamin C by This band names Can" Can? yeah, Can.

Upon listen to Vitamin C, It had such a great break beat, but yeat a hint of funk and garage rock. I assumed what I was hearing was prduct of the 90's. I was completly wrong. These guys prime was in circa 1971! Wow, to hear the music these guys

were making.

Vice magazine's short documentarys never seem to let me down. Ruling Britania, A Swansea Love story, is a "Day in the life" type film. In which, a film crew followes a young confused couple around Swansea, a small town in Wales.

In recent years, Britain has shows a raise of young kids getting hooked on heroin. In Swansea, nearly 55% of teens are doing heroin and or other high chemical based drugs.

Ruling Britania will show the the harsh reality of what is going on overseas with the drug and teen pregnancy problems. It shows that everyone round the world has the similar problems wether it be in an inner city, or the smallest of towns.

A Final Goodbye to Dr. Wax Record Store

I was very dissapointed to hear that a local record shop here in the Chi was closing down. Im talking about Dr. Wax Records on the southside. Me being a northsider I only made my way down to there spot only a few times. The times I did go I found it to be a great digging spot . Now I kinds regret not going diggin' more often thru there crates.

Not only will this event be a farewell to Dr.Wax. There will be a special tribute to WHPK's JP Chill. JP has been on WHPK since its begginings in 86'.

Back 2 Da Basics: Art Showcase Recap

Tonight was the art showcase put together by some of Chicago's Old School graffiti artist. Flash ABC, Rome TCK, KLTA and many more. I get mad excited when I know events in my city are held by real local talent, It good to know that in 2010, Graffiti and Hip-Hop heads can still have jams like this.

By the time I got there (8pm) the house was packed to its limit. Vibes were real cool, though standing in there for more than 30 min. at a time was a bit tough, no hassles outside. Always a good sight. The location was great aswell, right along side the Congress theater.

All in all, a very put together show. Real history lesson for the new school or the misinformed cats. Big ups to everyone that I saw and greeted, If I didnt my bad, a nigg had some drankyy!!

The Raveonettes is one of my favorite new bands, that are not really new. Theyve been around since early 2004, and people have said that most of thre "fame" might come fomr over seas. After signing on Vice's record label, theve said, they feel right at home. There sounds is like a mix between The Beach Boys or some Surf Rock vibe, mixed with a hint of Jimi Hendrix.

Their latest album "In & Out of Control" is creting alot of buzz among the indie locals. It is definatly a diffrent sound and feel then from "Lust Lust Lust". Alot more "pop" sound on here. Never the less, The Raveonettes are def. bringing somthing fresh and new to the rock scene. If you havnt hear any of ther stuff I suggest you look into it.

Columbia Records proudly announces the North American release of Congratulations, the keenly awaited new studio album from MGMT, on Tuesday, April 13.

One of 2010's most eagerly anticipated new releases, Congratulations is the successor to MGMT's Oracular Spectacular, the 2008 debut album which established the band's potential as a visionary force in pop music.

Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence: "It's Working," "Song for Dan Treacy," "Someone's Missing," "Flash Delirium," "I Found a Whistle," "Siberian Breaks," "Brian Eno," "Lady Dada's Nightmare," and "Congratulations."

Produced by MGMT and Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, E.A.R., Spectrum), Congratulations was recorded throughout 2009 in upstate New York, Malibu, and Brooklyn and features Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT's core duo, performing with Matt Asti (bass, backing vocals), Will Berman (drums, backing vocals), and James Richardson (guitar, backing vocals), the band's live line-up.

Daniel Johnston

Daniel Johnston is a very familier and well nown name in the indie community. Recently, after years of existing, a full length documentary was made . Jeff Feuerzeig's "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" was showcased at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. His earliest exposure to the "pop" culture was in 85', when Daniel's friends had urges them to show up at MTV's filming going on for "The Cutting Edge".

Daniel also has a very good reputation for his artwork. As a fan of comics as he was growing up, he personally designed and drew every tape cover he released.

His work is described at "Nightmare-ish Comic strips". His work had also been showcased in inernational art gallerys, from NY to London. His "Hi, How are you?" character is most probably the most iconic of his work. His mural in Austin, Tx has been in display for over 10 years, and after few owner changes to the building, it has been preserved.

Unfortunatly, everything has not been all good for him. After years of depression, Dan was diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder. It is said, this was due to a "bad acid LSD trip". Others say, it was due to a break up, with an girl, which caused a nervous breakdown. Many people have there opinion on this subjct, but I will let you guys watch this short documenary following Daniel Johnston, kinda like a "Day in the Life..."

What day is it today? Monday, thats right, it's time for another installment of The Reals, Movie Monday.

This week we have a short film, Asshole. No not you, thats the title of the film, "Asshole". For anyone that is a abit reader of Vice Magazine, Gavin McInnes is a familier name. He was one of the co-founders and resident editors and all around "bad boy" of the magazine. After close to 10 years with the magazine, in late 2007. Gavin annouced through a post on his blog, stating that he would no longer be a creative mind behind the magazine, nor associte his name with the "Vice" brand or his famed "Do's & Dont's. He later commented that it was due to "creative diffrences among editors and writers of Vice. It didnt mean he would be lost in the world. No, it ment he would open up his own production companies and set on project independently.

Since hes been doing stand up comedy. With "live" Do's and Dont's. He also worked on a small documentary in partership with Netflix. (Written by: Jesus Flores)

Unites was def. a classic in the indie community. Recently, the guys from Paris, have been getting alot of attention. From playing on Letterman, to having there single "1901" as Cadillacs, tv advertisments. Yes, Cadillac..

There newest release, "Wolfgang Amadeus" is definetly putting them on the map, Ive yet to hear any of there album singles on the local "alternative stations". May It be that local or American stations just dont pay attention to the international scene? Whatever it might be, this year I predicts Phoenix will be one of this years hottest bands.

This past week it was announced that Jay Leno would go back to the Tonight Show, booting Conan off to, well, who knows as of now. This has created alot of buzz among people whove never even seen the show. For the die hard Conan fans, this is a total shock. Last night, Jimmy Kimmel was guest for Jay Leno's 10 at 10, Where he asks his guest 10 questions and the person answers. With the situtation at hand, it wasnt suprising what went down..

All Manchester Orchestra fans got a heads up last night thru of the 2010 U.S Tour dates.I usually dont get this involved in the "alternative" bands, but, Manchester is definatly bringing something new to the table. There single "I Got Friends" got alot of play on the local Q101 alternative station, and with there newest single out "Shake it out" they are def. going to get even more exposure, and fortify "Mean Everything to Nothing" as an Indie Rock Classic. I myself like the what they call "album songs" like, "The Only One". If you are now beginning to hear abot them this is your chance to catch them live! For $14, you cant go wrong.

Last year - Christmas 2008 - was the worst Christmas many people have ever had. The poor economy, the record job losses and cutbacks, and the threat of losing our homes, made people less apt to spend money they didn't have on the elaborate Christmases of the past. However, many people believed that this year things would be better and life would return to normal.

That simply did not happen, and now millions of Americans must face the fact that Christmas as we once knew it is now a thing of a past. The continuing poor economy with all of its issues is forcing every one of us to look at the holiday season in a new light. Gifts which were once the focal point of this holiday are taking a back seat as we look for other less expensive and more meaningful ways to celebrate the holidays. For many of us, Christmas 2009 will be a new and novel experience.

For some, this will mean a returning to some of the old traditions and values that were a part of our childhood. From the recesses of our memories, we bring forth old traditions and activities that made the Christmases of our youths fun and exciting. Family activities will once again take center stage, as we focus on spending time with loved ones playing games, going sledding, and building simple snowmen. For others, it will mean returning to the churches of youth in search of the real meaning of Christmas joy and in search of comfort and reassurance in this difficult time. While still others, will find the true spirit of Christmas in helping those who are less fortunate and for who the holidays offer little joy.

Still others will find little enjoyment at all in the holiday season, as they will be consumed with worry about where their next meal will be coming from, or how they are going to manage to keep the lights on another month.

Advertisers will try and convince everyone that having the latest new toy or gadget is the only way to enjoy the holiday, while store owners and managers will complain that consumers are simply not buying again this year and will try and convince us that only by spending money we don't have, can we hope to jump start the economy.

Meanwhile, there will be more people than ever before standing in line at missions and soup kitchens hoping to get the first adequate meal they have had in days, feeling grateful for whatever little warmth and cheer comes their way.

Some people will become depressed, some will hold tight to what little they have, and some will find a measure of joy and true Christmas spirit.

One thing, however, is sure; all of us will be affected by the economy in some way or another this Christmas. For everyone who gives up hope, someone else will find a small hope to cling to. For everyone who takes advantage of someone this Christmas, there will be someone else willing to give something back. For every person who feels there is no goodness left in this world, others will find the goodness in others and themselves.

The bad economy of Christmas 2009 will bring out our weaknesses and strengthens, our sorrows and joys, and will in one way or another create a Christmas to remember in the hearts and minds of us all.

DOOM is coming. Formerly MF DOOM, born in London, raised in Long Island, DOOM (Daniel Dumile) has been one of the most unique and imaginative sounds in hip hop since he was ZevLoveX in KMD. After band tragedy and getting dropped from Elektra label due to controversial art direction, Zev went underground swearing revenge against the industry that crossed him. As the legend grew, a mysterious masked figure arose surfacing as MF DOOM and went on to release critically acclaimed Operation: Doomsday, Take me to Your Leader album as King Geedorah, and Vaudeville Villain under yet another alias, Viktor Vaughn. MF DOOM’s Mmm..Food (Rhymesayers Ent.) launched him into hip hop notoriety which led to full album collaborations with other groundbreaking artists such as Dangerdoom with Danger Mouse and Madvillain with Madlib. Ever evolving, there’s no telling what madness DOOM will bring, recently releasing Born Like This earlier in 2009.

An unlikely accomplice in villainy, MOS DEF has been sighted meeting and performing with DOOM around the world! From the musical hotbed of Brooklyn, Mos first came to prominence as half the hip hop group Black Star with Talib Kweli in the mid-nineties. His first solo album Black on Both Sides was an instant classic with hits like “Little Miss Fat Booty.” His recent album, The Ecstatic, was praised by critics and fans, welcoming him back to the forefront of hip hop from his time away in major films.

FOR CHICAGO ONLY, MIKE RELM joins the crew with his one-of-a-kind live show that blends video, audio, turntablism and crowd-interaction. His innovative performances earned him a spot touring with the performance-art group Blue Man Group.

Chicago’s own Qwel and Maker, BBU, The Comeups, Rude 1, Trew, Demchuk and RTC have signed on for support, even as they continue to deny any knowledge of DOOM’s whereabouts.

We’ll even have live LAZER GRAFFITI demonstration in the lobby by Kid Static!

Those titans of Parisian electro, Justice, have been busy boys since releasing their world-smashing debut album back in 2007. Since then, the pair of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge has trekked across the globe with a slew of sold-out tours, released a rather polarizing live CD/DVD, pimped out Coca-Cola, won a Grammy and turned in remixes for U2 and Lenny Kravitz, the latter of which we’d rather not talk about.

But amongst that whirlwind of tours and hype, Justice has somehow managed to bunker down in the studio and plot out their next record. The news comes with the announcement that the release of the Ed Banger superstars’ sophomore LP is part of a plan to reboot the once-great US label, Elektra, which has picked up Justice – as well as our favourite British fire-starter Little Boots and Gnarls Barkley rapper Cee-Lo – for US territories.(Source:inthemix.com)

MGMT has been recently working on their new album, Congratulations, expected to be released in January 2010. The band, including Matthew Asti, James Richardson and Will Berman from the live band, spent the summer of 2009 in Malibu recording the album with Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom, ex-Spacemen 3 and Spectrum, serving as producer/guru. MGMT debuted three new songs titled "Congratulations", "It's Working", and "Song for Dan Tracey" at recent shows. In a Rolling Stone interview a fourth song titled "Flash Delirium" was revealed to be on the upcoming album but has yet to be played live. (Source: Wikipidia)

Actress Brittany Murphy Dead, At age 32

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- An autopsy on the body of actress Brittany Murphy was conducted Monday, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said.

    Authorities have said the 32-year-old appeared to have died Sunday of natural causes, and there was no sign of foul play or trauma."Naturally occurring diseases could be found in any person that could lead to death," said Capt. John Kades of the coroner's office.
    The office is looking into Murphy's medical history. A final report could take up to eight weeks. The cause of death will not be released until the toxicology report is concluded, said the coroner's office. That process can take weeks.
    Police also are conducting an investigation, which includes robbery and homicide detectives looking at what was in her home, said Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Norma Eisenman. Murphy was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. PT (1:04 p.m. ET) Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles
